RINGWOOD School students are getting their dancing shoes on for their production of hit musical Billy Elliot.

More than 120 students, from backstage crew through to lead roles on stage, will captivate audiences from February 14 to 18.

Set in a small mining town in the North East of England, against the background of the 1984/85 miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s struggle to make his dream come true.

The musical follows Billy’s journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and the whole community changing his life forever.

Ian Hawkins, producer and musical director of Billy Elliot, said: “We are very excited to be staging the hit musical Billy Elliot and our students are currently working extremely hard on all aspects of the production.

"Every year I am amazed by the talent of our students, who dedicate a considerable amount of time and effort, over and above their studies, to make sure that the show lives up to the incredibly high standards for which we are known. To be part of a show of this quality and scale is a fantastic achievement."
