POLICE are investigating after a pony was killed in a hit and run.

Officers were called to Pig Bush car park, on Lyndhurst Road, Beaulieu, at 10.10pm on Tuesday, after a New Forest pony was hit by a car.

The car left the scene, leaving the animal in the middle of the road. The pony died as a result of the collision. Witnesses at the scene have described the vehicle as being a black Mercedes, possibly a C or E class model. One of the wing mirrors was knocked off as a result of the collision and was left at the scene.

PC Graham Scott said: “We are appealing for the driver to come forward.

“Not only is it a legal requirement to stop and tell police if you hit an animal in a collision, but reporting it can also prevent any further suffering to the animal if it is left seriously injured.”

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Scott on 101, quoting 44160250586.
