A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital with "potentially serious injuries" following a crash in the New Forest.

The man in his 50s was taken to Southampton General Hospital following the crash involving a car on the A337 Lyndhurst Road this morning.

The road was closed between Balmer Lawn Road and Mill Lane near the Careys Manor Hotel for several hours.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police said they were called at 10.53am and the crash involved a car and a motorcycle.

“There are road closures in place so we advise motorists to keep away from the area,” she said.

A spokeswoman from the South Central Ambulance Service said: “We got the call at 10.49am to reports of a motorcyclist who had come off his bike and into a car.

"We sent a variety of resources including a co-responder, ambulance crew, Thames Valley air ambulance and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance. All the crews were treating a gentleman in his 50s.

"He sustained potentially serious injuries."

“He was assessed and treated by all our crews and taken by land ambulance, accompanied by the air ambulance, to Southampton General Hospital.”

"The car driver was not injured."

The road reopened just before 3.30pm.
