A MAN who ploughed his Aston Martin into a family of three cyclists has been found guilty of three counts of driving without due care and attention.

Kyle Lloyd, 30, of Gosport Street in Lymington, struck Peter Mead, Elizabeth Hutchings and their daughter, 14-year-old Saffron Mead, as they crossed the road.

He was found not guilty of three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court.

Mr Mead and his family were returning to their caravan at the Hollands Wood Campsite when the collision took place on the A337 between Lymington and Brockenhurst on Saturday, September 27, 2014.

The trio, who had been on a bike ride, had dismounted and were walking across the carriageway at the time of the crash.

Mr Mead sustained a fractured lower leg and cuts and bruises.

He was flown to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance after being resuscitated by paramedics.

Ms Hutchings sustained two broken thigh bones and a broken ankle.

Saffron sustained a fractured jaw and injuries to her teeth.

Lloyd admitted to jurors he had driven like an “idiot” after leaving Brockenhurst train station but slowed his speed to around 40 miles per hour in the time before the collision outside Setleyridge Vineyard.

It took a jury just over two hours to decide on their verdicts.

During the trial, the court heard witnesses had told police the speed Lloyd reached was “incredible” and how his car engine had been “screaming” moments before the crash.

Another witness who saw the Aston Martin said it was an “accident waiting to happen”.

It also emerged that a man who later heard the police and ambulance sirens pass by had thought to himself “that could have been the Aston Martin”.

Police investigators told the court that had Lloyd been travelling at the 40mph speed limit, he should have been able to stop before the location of the crash and would not have needed to swerve to avoid the cyclists.

Lloyd will return to court to be sentenced on Friday, May 6.
