FRICTIONS between cycling event organisers and other New Forest interest groups have been significantly reduced in the last 12 months according to a national park authority report.

The latest findings from the NPA-led Safety Advisor Group were reported to a full meeting of the authority to coincide with the first anniversary of the publication of a New Forest cycle event organisers' charter.

The voluntary charter, which was set up in response to a growing number of large-scale cycling events taking place in the Forest, seeks to limit the number of participants to 1,000 a day and improve advanced planning management.

NPA members heard communications between event organisers and parish councils had been improved because of the charter, enabling local people to take account of significant events and plan their days accordingly.
