A CYCLIST who travelled more than 11,000 miles from Hordle to Hong Kong has completed his epic journey.

Robert Miller from Lymington pedalled his way across the world for more than 14 months, raising money for Oakhaven Hospice at Lymington.

His journey started in July 2014, when he left the village near Lymington, travelling on his trusty touring bike to Istanbul.

Joined by a friend for half of his total trip, Robert then flew from Istanbul to India, travelling through countries including Nepal, north east India, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos before he arrived in Hong Kong.

He slept in monasteries and people's homes as well as camping.

Robert, 38, arrived home nearly two weeks ago, even cycling back to Lymington from Heathrow.

"It's very strange when you come home because you've been on this massive adventure", he said.

"I've always enjoyed travelling and seeing new people and places.

"This was real travel. You got to see things most people would never experience.

"I've never been to north-east India, the hospitality there was amazing.

"People welcomed me with open arms and everyone has been so nice and helpful."

He added: "I think the bike endeared me to people. If you turn up scruffy, sweaty and dirty there is a certain amount of respect from people.

"I can't pinpoint one particular part of the journey that was better than the rest. As an experience, it was just incredible.

"I've got things I want to get on with now, like my allotment.

"I wanted to raise money for Oakhaven because it's a local charity that does great work. Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer and I felt it was important to support them."
