A NEW Forest MP who found himself locked out of his office turned out to have kept his government job after all.

Desmond Swayne, MP for New Forest West, had returned to work on Monday morning to find his door pass no longer worked and all of his belongings had been cleared out of his office.

The move left him in the dark as to whether or not he would be continuing as a minister for international development as David Cameron finalised his reshuffle of the front benches.

Mr Swayne tweeted: "“The end?”

On Monday night, David Cameron announced that former Conservative party co-chairman Grant Shapps had been appointed minister of state at the Department for International Development.

And on Monday evening, Mr Swayne tweeted: "Au milieu de tant de perils, il me reste moi."

It translates from the French as: "In the midst of so many perils, I have myself."

However, on Tuesday afternoon, it emerged that Mr Swayne had been appointed alongside Mr Shapps. This time, he tweeted: "Honoured to return to DFID. Events in Nepal today shows how vital our work is."

The government has also announced that Tobias Ellwood has kept his job in the Foreign Office.

Meanwhile, West Dorset MP Oliver Letwin will become a full member of Cabinet and will be in overall charge of the Cabinet Office, Mr Cameron said.
