FINAL preparations are being made for one of the biggest events of the year in Ringwood.

The town’s annual carnival takes place on Saturday, September 20, and is celebrating its 85th year.

There will be plenty on offer, with a day of family fun on the cards.

Attractions running from noon will include street entertainers, fire performers, stilt walkers, circus skills, processions, live music and an evening funfair.

The two big highlights will be the parades at 2pm and 7.15pm.

It will all raise funds for good causes around the area.

Michael Lingam-Willgoss, vice-chairman of the carnival committee, said the carnival was on course to be another great community event.

He said: “Ringwood Carnival really brings people together.

“The first Ringwood Carnival was held in 1929, with the event held every year since 1950.”

Isabella Rix, 16, has been chosen to be carnival Queen this year.

Her attendants are Becky D’Arcy and Mabel Collins.

Isabella, a sixth form student at Ringwood School, said: “I’m really looking forward to the carnival.

“It should be great.”
