PASSENGERS at a New Forest railway station will benefit from a £4.6m scheme that will improve access for those with limited mobility.
Brockenhurst station now has a new footbridge along with lifts, which will help people with limited mobility.
The work was carried out as part of the Government’s Access for All programme.
Opening the new facilities and unveiling a plaque was Connor Gardner, pictured right, a 12-year-old from Honeypot House – South West Trains’ chosen charity of the year.
The organisation, based close to Brockenhurst station, offers respite care to children, many of whom spend time caring for a loved one.
Connor has been looking after his mum Rhonda, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He was joined by Arthur Pretorius, also pictured, customer service director for the rail firm.
South West Trains Network Rail Alliance also presented staff from Honeypot with a bike – the first of many that have been abandoned at railway stations and reconditioned so they can be put to use.
