New bus service to link East Dorset and Bournemouth

BUS campaigners in West Moors say they are "absolutely delighted" by news of a new hourly weekday service linking East Dorset and Bournemouth.

Yellow Buses will launch its new route 29 service - which will run hourly from 7am to 6pm between Monday and Saturday - on April 19.

The service will link Bournemouth town centre and the railway station with Winton, Moordown, Parley, Ferndown and West Moors.

Campaigner, Jenny Winslade, from the West Moors Local Action Group, said: "West Moors has been without a direct weekday bus service to Bournemouth since the autumn of 2007.

"We're absolutely delighted that Yellow Buses is to launch this new service in April which will greatly benefit residents here."

Other areas covered have not had a regular direct weekday bus link with Bournemouth for more than two years after another operator withdrew its services.

Two areas of Ferndown - Glenmoor Road and Ferndown Industrial Estate - will feature on the route, with the service stopping on the industrial estate at morning and afternoon peak times.

Yellow Buses' timetable chief, Marc West, said: "We have received many representations over the last two years to launch a new bus service linking East Dorset and Bournemouth.

"We are confident that there will be considerable demand for route 29 but, as always, the long-term success of any bus route depends on people using it."

The company operates a fleet of 110 buses and 16 coaches, employs 340 people, and carries some 13 million passengers a year over five million miles across Bournemouth, Poole, and Christchurch.

Full details of route 29, including timetable information, will be issued during the next few weeks. The new service begins on Monday April 19.
