PLANS to open a new retail unit for up to 50 different traders in East Dorset have been approved by the council.
The proposals to convert part of the existing groundfloor warehouse at Amtec House on Ringwood Road for use as a non-food retail complex for the sale of crafts, vintage and new products.
The existing warehouse has historically been intensively used by Amtec, a company who provide IT support for customers. The building was used to store computer and server parts for repairs, as well as recycling.
A statement submitted on behalf of the applicants says: "The proposal will support the Bridge House Hotel, where visitors to the retail outlet will be able to make use of bar and restaurant facilities.
"It is anticipated that, as well as supporting the hotel, the scheme will generate two full-time equivalent jobs and provide space for up to 50 different traders, thereby supporting the local economy."
