AN ADULT only holiday park in East Dorset is celebrating after winning a clutch of awards.

Back of Beyond Touring Park in St Leonards is run by a husband and wife team Martin and Vicki Bowrey.

The couple sold their London photography business four years ago to take a gamble on their future in rural Dorset.

Their aim was to run an eco-friendly holiday park for nature-loving guests in a part of the country where they often went camping as a family.

The park has now picked up a conservation award from botanist David Bellamy, a gold pennant from the AA and a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

It was also voted one of Britain’s top 100 holiday parks, out of more than 3,000, by readers of Practical Caravan magazine.

Set amongst 30 acres, the park provides 80 pitches for camping, touring caravans and motorhomes.

Martin and Vicki also offer ready-erected tents, yurts and timber lodges for glamping guests featuring home comforts such as full-size double beds, heating and kitchen areas.

Their guests include 250,000 honey bees which thrive on the park's many wild flowers.

The honey is then sold in the park’s shop with Martin and Vicki imposing a total ban on the use of herbicides.

Martin said: "The feedback we receive from holiday guests, and which helped contribute to these awards, often highlights the park's friendly atmosphere and the hospitality provided.

"Delivering this is very much in the hands of our team as well as Vicki and me, so we owe them a big thank-you for helping to create so many memorable experiences.

"I hope these awards will benefit not just us, but also other tourism businesses in the New Forest area by showing what a great part of Britain this is for taking a holiday.”
