CHILDREN from an East Dorset school went on a safari adventure last week - without ever leaving the playground.

Youngsters at Witchampton CE First School searched the grounds of the school for the type of animals they might find on a trip to Kenya as part of a topic on Africa.

The pupils, who are in years one and two, went exploring in the fields, discovering on their journey cuddly toy elephants, buffalos, wildebeest and antelopes.

School head Cathie Bolton said: "This event not only taught our children about the animals that live in Africa but it also encouraged their sense of adventure and exploration."

The adventure took place during April's warm weather, and Ms Bolton said: "We were so lucky to have safari-like weather for the occasion.”
