A DORSET country park is inviting people of all abilities and ages to attend a free special event this weekend.

Moors Valley Country Park and Forest will be holding an Accessible Activity Day on Saturday between 9am and 4pm.

The day will begin with a parkrun for all abilities and trained guides will be available to support those with visual impairment.

Other activities will include pond dipping, a sensory nature table, mobility scooter loan and the chance to have a go at sign-language.

Visitors can also try accessible cycles, electric bikes and orienteering, enjoy the audio trail by the lake, or the new Highway Rat family trail through the forest.

There will even be the chance to have a go at orienteering with Wimborne Orienteers. Booking is essential.

Katie Davies, accessibility champion at Moors Valley, said: “We are also working with specialist advisors to help us develop our approach to accessibility and inclusivity even further and to focus on improvements to our accessible activities and events.

“To help us get those improvements right I’d also welcome input from representatives of local organisations representing those with particular needs.”

Katie is up for a national award for her work to improve accessibility and inclusivity after taking gold in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards for Outstanding Customer Service. She is now a contender for the national VisitEngland Tourism Superstar Award.

The award is decided by public vote and closes on 24 March. Members of the public can vote for Katie at https://www.mirror.co.uk/travel/uk-ireland/meet-finalists-2018-tourism-superstar-11992093
