DETAILS for the latest phase of a major development in Wimborne have been submitted to planners.

The 'Minster Gate' scheme, which is being carried out by Bloor Homes, is for a 101 acre site off Cranborne Road to the north of the town.

As reported by the Daily Echo, an application for a first school as part of the new neighbourhood was recently approved by Dorset County Council members and the initial 64 homes in the scheme were given the green light back in December.

Now permission is being sought from East Dorset District Council (EDDC) for the remaining 254 properties at the development on the east of side Cranborne Road.

The proposed dwellings are broken down as follows:

n 168 open market properties - 33 two-bed houses, 69 three-bed houses, 61 four-bed houses and five five-bed houses.

n 53 affordable shared ownership properties - six two-bed houses, 13 three-bed houses and 34 one-bed apartments.

n 33 affordable rented properties - 13 two-bed apartments, eight two-bed houses, 10 three-bed houses and two four-bed houses.

The site has been identified for development in EDDC's core strategy, with the location serving as a preferred site for affordable housing.

A planning statement notes that the proposed housing mix deviates slightly from the approximate market mix set out in the section 106 agreement, which was signed as part of the original outline application.

However it goes on to say this is an approximate for the whole site on both the east and west of Cranborne Road, with future applications for land to the west of Cranborne Road set to broadly balance the mix with the agreement.

The statement adds: "This application represents the culmination of pre-application consultations with relevant stakeholders and seeks to deliver 254 high quality homes for Wimborne Minster, comprising 168 open market and 86 affordable dwellings.

"The proposed layout reflects EDDC’s ambition to provide a high quality garden neighbourhood to the north of Wimborne and Bloor Homes’ ambition to provide attractive and functional homes to meet the requirements of homebuyers in the area."

No objections have been raised to the scheme by Wimborne Minster Town Council or Colehill Parish Council.

The overall 'Minster Gate' development will provide up to 610 homes.
