WIMBORNE is ready to kickstart the festive season with the Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday.

Hundreds of visitors are expected in the Square and in the town for a day of fun and entertainment to usher in the seasonal shopping period.

From 10.30am local musicians, dancers and choirs - including Vocal Impact Youth Choir and Just Sing - are set to entertain visitors with festive performances. The day’s entertainment will culminate with the lights switch on, from 4.30pm.

A series of festive events will be held in Wimborne in the lead-up to Christmas. Among the upcoming events in December, visitors will get to enjoy the Small Business Saturday East Street Party on December 2, music performances in the Square from local schools on December 4, 6 and 15, Save the Children Parade on December 9, the return of the Alpine Bar December 14 and more. All these festive activities are aiming to promote the town’s huge array of small independent businesses and bring visitors to the town during the winter holidays.

Tammy Sleet, Wimborne BID Manager, said: "The Christmas lights switch on is always a great way to bring people into the heart of Wimborne. Wimborne BID is proud to work with our colleagues at Wimborne Minster Town Council and The Wimborne Minster Chamber of Trade and Commerce to support these festive activities which attract visitors and promote our town as a terrific destination during the Christmas holidays."
