AFTER five weeks the Ferndown post office has finally reopened.

The shop had been closed since early July following a dispute over the lease of the premises.

However, after appointing an interim postmaster, the post office at Pennys Walk opened its doors to the public yesterday.

The Post Office said as the closure was caused by a private dispute between the previous and current postmasters they were unable to resolve the issue directly.

Throughout the period of the closure, residents were advised to use alternative post offices at West Moors, Wimborne and Parley Cross.

Residents' frustrations grew after there was limited communication from the Post Office over the closure and when it would reopen.

A Post Office spokesperson, said: “We have been working hard to restore Post Office services to Ferndown, and are very pleased to announce that the Post Office has now reopened.

"We have appointed a temporary Postmaster to run the branch, which will offer the same wide range of services from cash withdrawals and deposits to collecting and posting letters and parcels.

"We are sorry to our customers for the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure.”
