POLICE have closed a road in Sixpenny Handley after a lorry hit some power cables.

The B3081 Common Road has been shut after the cables fell between Back Lane and Red Lane at around 10.15am.

A spokesperson for energy company SSE said two properties had lost their power supply as a result of the incident.

“We expect to have power restored by 5pm,” he said.

“The lorry was lifting its cherry picker when it hit the cables, which brought them down onto the road.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said the driver of the lorry did not stop at the scene.

"Common Road is closed at Frogmore Lane and the bottom of Sixpenny Handley High Street after reports a large lorry collided with some electricity cables," they said.

"SSE and BT have both been informed."
