A CAR which ploughed through a garden wall after skidding out of control along a residential street made a sound “like a bomb going off,” said a shocked homeowner.

The woman, who asked not to be named, was relaxing with her husband in front of the television when the blue BMW smashed into their front garden.

Heavy brickwork was flung 40ft across the driveway, damaging a garage door and a recently-erected garden fence. The wall of the home in Turbary Road, Trickett’s Cross, near Ferndown, was demolished in the Wednesday evening accident.

No-one was injured and the driver fled immediately after the impact.

However, following a police search he was located a short time afterwards. No arrests have been made.

The homeowner told the Daily Echo: “We were sitting at home watching the telly, it was about 9pm and it just sounded like a bomb going off.

“The bricks have just come flying across into the fence - the wall practically exploded. The fencing was only done in July, it is unbelievable.”

The pavement at the front of the bungalow remained cordoned off by police yesterday morning - the cost of rebuilding the wall is likely to run into thousands of pounds.

“My husband saw someone running off,” said the homeowner. “The driver must have been hurt - the car was so badly damaged, the side impact air bags had gone off.

“The force, to throw as much rubble as it has, much have been something. But it could have been worse, he could easily have kept going and hit the house.

“There is a slight bend just up the road, and they come down like racing cars. You can see where he’s lost it, you can see the skid marks.”

Some witnesses reported two people fleeing the vehicle.

A Dorset Police spokesman confirmed officers were called at 9.20pm on Wednesday, February 1, to reports that a blue BMW car had collided with the wall.

The spokesman added: “The driver fled from the vehicle but was located a short time later by officers searching the area.

“Recovery was carried out for the vehicle.”
