Lesley Seymour, 56, a child care worker from Burton, said: "It's excellent news, particular for people who do not drive. They can now come into town and make use of the post office. In Burton we still have one, but having this one open up will be great."

Elizabeth Flannery, 65, a retired building society manager from Friars Cliff, said: "My pension goes directly into my bank account, but a lot of older people in particle like to come and collect their pension in person. For sending parcels it's ideal to have it here."

Ann Dow, 75, a retired Mudeford resident, said: "It's not been good without a post office, especially for people who live in the town centre. I have been fine where I live, but to not have a town centre post office for so long is a disgrace."

Paul Smith, 48, a painter and decorator for Emeralds from Fairmile, said: "I think it is a good thing for everyone and hopefully it is viable because they seem to close quite often now. It should be nice to have it right in the hub of the town."

Mary Fotheringham, 80, a retired radio manufacturer from Christchurch, said: "It is brilliant news. They have great location. The majority of people get off the bus and come straight into this area.

Ann Jeanes, 58, a retired logistics manager who lives in Salisbury and regularly visits Christchurch to see relatives, said: "People like that personal touch so it is nice to know it is coming back to the town centre after so long."

Linda Taylor, 47, a retail worker from Purewell, said: "When you are in the town it will be much better for people to be able to make use of all the services the post offices offer. I think it will be very popular."

Christine Brooks, 70, a retired accountant from Southbourne, said: "I'm really glad to hear the post office is returning - it's brilliant. Not having one in a town like Christchurch has been ridiculous. I hope it proposers and does well."

Lawrence Cox, 82, a retired BT engineer from Tuckton, said: "It's a good idea and excellent news for people who come to the town. It is in the ideal place and it has been far too long without one. People realise how important they are."
