Use or lose Highcliffe market say traders

USE it or lose it. That’s the call to shoppers in Highcliffe to frequent the weekly market when it returns after Easter.

Paul Lewis, chief executive of the Southern Market Traders Co-operative, said the market, which takes place in the car park at the Globe Inn on Fridays, was meant to stop at Christmas and restart in the spring.

He said: “The weather in the run-up to Christmas and the weeks beyond it has proved we made the right decision.

“I’m hoping that an improvement in the weather will bring more people in as we do need to make it worthwhile for traders.”

Following the trial run, the market stalls will be selling products akin to a traditional farmers market.

The weekly market was brought back in October after calls from residents and traders lamenting its loss after it folded in 2006.

Cllr Sally Derham Wilkes, portfolio holder for business & tourism at Christchurch council, said: “We understand that the market is not operating while the weather is not very good but we look forward to it opening again in April and hope it will be successful over the summer months.”

I keep hearing and seeing this moronic slogan "use it or lose it". Can someone tell me what sort of half wit comes up with this stupidity.

If no one is using something why exactly would anyone expect them to give a monkeys about it being discontinued

why would people buy from a market when most of the time you can get better quality and cheaper goods from local shops ?
