It’s simply the Fest as Christchurch rocks

MUSIC fans boogied into Christchurch at the weekend for a festival that looks likely to boost the mayor’s charity coffers by more than £1,200.

The huge marquee on the Quomp rocked from all evening on Friday and most of Saturday and Sunday as act after act took to the stage and played for the appreciative audience.

Friday night gave the Christchurch Festival the kick start it needed with rock cover band Catalyst taking centre stage followed by more rock from Galahad at 9pm.

There were lively lyrics from the youngsters of the Funky Little Choir Co who got proceedings under way at lunchtime on Saturday. The songsters were followed by Gasoline Alley, Permanent Vacation, Bournemouth band Fearne and The Next Big Thing.

The Secrets took the event into the evening and the final act of the night was The Storm.

Sunday’s entertainment started gently with duo Brazen at noon followed by acoustic and electric traditional music from Mary Jane. The Livewire Festival Band got sparks flying, followed by Skint, Station XC and the main act of the day, rockabilly band Lady Winwood’s Maggot, who brought the weekend to a resounding conclusion.

Organiser Paul Cole said he expected the amount raised for charity to better last year’s £1,200.

Mayor Cllr David Flagg has nominated four charities this year: Christchurch CAB, Wessex Autistic Society, Christchurch Food Festival Education Trust and Christchurch Activities for Young People.

The Christchurch Festival is organised and run by volunteers. Mr Cole said more help is needed for next year. Contact him at paul_cole2@sky.com
