MORE than 100 homes, new shops and 50 retirement flats.

The new plans for Christchurch police station site will be unveiled to the public on Tuesday May 15.

And people will be able to have their say on the major development on the site of the former police station and magistrates court.

The event, which is being held at the Kings Arms pavilion on Tuesday May 15, will take place from 11.30am until 8pm.

It is open to both residents and businesses.

Representatives from Aster, the new owners of the site, will be present to answer questions, along with planning consultants and construction partners.

Included in the plans is more than 100 new homes for a mixture of affordable rent, shared ownership and open market sale as well as new retail units and 50 retirement flats.

Lindsey Aldington, senior development manager at Aster Group, said: “This is a landmark opportunity for Christchurch and we’re keen for as many people to get involved in shaping the plans as possible.

"With input from residents and business owners we can create a new area for the community to enjoy, connect Bargates to the main high street and bring much-needed new quality and affordable homes to the area.

“Community feedback can help shape our plans and we are keen to hear what local residents think. I hope many will come along to the exhibition and share their ideas with us.

“This is a good site in a sustainable location. Christchurch Borough Council have been keen to redevelop this site for 15 years and we believe the plans we are putting forward will deliver many social and economic benefits.”

Aster has also appointed Christchurch-based architecture firm Aspire to design the scheme.

The site was formally owned by Christchurch Borough Council, Dorset County Council, Dorset Police and the Hospital of St Mary Magdalen Trust.

The sale of the site has been labelled a "disaster" previously by a Christchurch councillor during discussions about the loss of car parking.

The Pit Site and Bargates car parks provide 155 parking spaces.
