PLANS to build six houses and a new access road in Burton look set to be approved - despite objections from villagers.

The scheme for a field off Tucks Fold, Preston Lane has received 35 letters of objection.

Last year, a scheme for ten houses and a new access road was refused by Christchurch Borough Council's planning committee.

This time around, the size of the houses has been reduced, and positioned closer to the centre of the site to allow for better separation between hedgerows.

The land is not part of the green belt.

Objections raise concerns about overdevelopment and the urbanisation of a rural location.

Some people suggest other sites should be utilised prior to developing peripheral locations, while others also raised concerns about the narrowness of the lane and highway safety.

Flood concerns were also raised, as well as the loss of views from adjacent properties.

Burton Parish Council also objected saying the proposal would constitute overdevelopment, with concerns about access and increased traffic down Preston Lane.

A report to the planning board says it is not considered that a refusal of the proposal in terms of its impact on the character of the lane could be substantiated at appeal.

A number of conditions have been placed on the application, should it be granted.

The planning committee will meet at 6pm on Thursday.
