A CCTV image has been released after two men assaulted a shop worker while attempting to steal food from a petrol station.

The incident took place at the BP petrol station in Somerford Road at around 7.40pm on Sunday, November 5.

Two men entered the shop and attempted to steal some food.

When a male member of staff challenged the pair, one of the offenders became aggressive and clenched his fist and went to punch the victim. However, the second offender stopped the punch and both suspects shoved the victim out of the way.

The pair left the store and got into the rear passenger seats of a car, believed to be a gold-coloured Renault Scenic, and left the scene.

The victim was not physically injured.

No arrests have been made.

Police Constable Bill Nightingall, of Christchurch police, is appealing to anyone who recognises either of the men in the CCTV image to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, via email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55170172652.
