SURVEYS are under way after a beach path in Highcliffe was closed to the public last week.
Christchurch council closed the pathway due to concerns about safety last Friday.
This was due to ongoing deterioration of the structural retaining wall.
Matt Reeks, community and open spaces manager said: "We are in the process of carrying out surveys and discussing options with a specialist contractor.
"During this time the path will remain closed, as public safety is paramount.
"Alternative access to the beach can be found via steps further along the cliff top to the right of the zig zag.
"Other car parks with sloping access to the beach can be found at Highcliffe cliff top by the Cliffhanger Cafe and at Friars Cliff."
There is likely to be a further update next week, a council spokesperson said.
