A MAN will face a trial over the alleged killing of Christchurch council leader Ray Nottage's son-in-law Nick Medlin.
Mr Medlin, 57, died following an incident in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight on Christmas Eve.
Cllr Nottage, who is also ward councillor for Purewell and Stanpit, said Mr Medlin was “a wonderful husband, father and son”.
The prison officer suffered an injury outside the Rose Inn in Pier Street.
Michael John Hudson, 32 and of no fixed abode, was later charged with manslaughter.
He appeared before a judge at Winchester Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Monday.
Hudson denied the charge and will go on trial on June 26 at the same court.
He was remanded into custody.
Two other men aged 26 and 31 were arrested on suspicion of murder and have been bailed until April 11 pending further enquiries.
