A PLEA for sponsorship has been made ahead of one of the biggest bonfire night events this year.

Christchurch Rotary Club's event at Stanpit Marsh attracts thousands of people each year, with profits going towards youth groups in Christchurch.

It is due to be held on Saturday, November 5 this year.

However, the costs of the event has risen significantly in recent years, along with health and safety requirements.

Organisers say there is a special need for additional sponsorship from individuals and local businesses this year.

Christchurch Rotary President Richard Reader said: "Sponsorship income is needed to safeguard this community event from excessive losses if bad weather limits attendance or necessitates cancellation.

"If the weather is good, then sponsors know that their support will be used exclusively for really worthwhile local youth causes.

"Please get in touch if you could be interested in becoming a patron of this longstanding event and help us maintain it for future years."
