A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after her mobility scooter collided with a stationary van.
The incident took place in Walcott Avenue, off Fairmile Road, Christchurch, just after 2.15pm. The road was closed at the Fairmile Road end of Walcott Avenue while emergency services were at the scene.
One eyewitness described seeing a large police presence.
PC Mark Palmer, of Dorset Police, said the 71-year-old woman had a “medical episode” prior to the collision.
“We were called to initial reports of a road traffic collision between a van and a mobility scooter and reports that the driver of the scooter was unconscious,” he said.
“It turned out the driver had a medical episode, which caused her to drive into a parked and unattended van.
“She is being treated in hospital,” he added.
The woman was not injured during the incident and there was no damage to the van. The road was re-opened around 3pm.
