SCORES of residents have commented on major plans to build 850 new homes at Roeshot Hill in Christchurch.

Around 150 comments from residents and community groups have been received by developers Taylor Wimpey after a recent consultation event on the controversial plans.

Residents hit out at the developers during the event, criticising the housing development scheme for not including a school or medical centre.

And people were also incensed over access arrangements to the site, which the current proposal says will be via the existing Lyndhurst Road and Hawthorn Road, known as Staple Cross.

The development, which currently excludes the allotment site, said a mix of housing will be provided including up to four bedroom houses along with apartments and affordable housing.

Primarily the properties will be for families, with plans for a full-size sports pitch and children’s play area along with a community building.

SANG – Suitable Alternative Natural Green space – will be provided in three different areas from the site, on land owned by the Meyrick Estates.

Buses will run from Sainsbury’s, while there are suggestions of junction improvement, possibly traffic signals, at the Burton exit onto the bypass.

A Taylor Wimpey spokesman said: “We received approximately 150 comments from local residents and stakeholders during our pre-application public consultation period and we will continue to work with the local planning authority over the coming months to ensure our final application addresses as many of the issues and concerns raised as possible.

Our planning application is due to be submitted in the spring of 2016.”

The Daily Echo also asked if changes would be made to reflect the strong reaction from residents about the school, medical centre and road.

"All of these issues are being considered as part of the consultation process", the spokesperson added.
