POLICE were called following reports of a break-in at a Christchurch convenient store this morning.

They cordoned off an area of the Cooperative at Fairmile Road, after it was broken into at around 3am.

Crime scene investigators are on site at present.

An unknown number of burglars took off with a quantity of cigarettes and the inside of the shop was found to be damaged.

No arrests have been made.

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: “We received a call at around 3am this morning to reports of a break in at the Cooperative Food store on Fairmile Road, Christchurch.

“Officers attended and found a quantity of cigarettes had been stolen and damage caused inside the store.

“The location has been cordoned off while crime scene investigators carry out their duties.”

The Coop has been contact for comment but has yet to respond.

Around 45 minutes later, thieves targeted the Cooperative store in Holbury.

They made off with hundreds of pounds worth of cigarettes after throwing a concrete block through the window

At this time, the two incidents are not thought to be linked.
