A CHRISTCHURCH woman has skydived in memory of her sister’s baby, who passed away before arriving into the world.

Victoria Dacombe did the daring jump from 10,000ft at Old Sarum Airfield, Salisbury to raise money for two charities close to her sister Jennie’s heart - Spring and 4Louis.

“I’ve never done anything like this before but it was always on my bucket list. Then the situation arrived with Jennie and she suggested I do it to raise awareness and money for the causes," she said.

She added: “I felt dizzy and nauseous afterwards, though, and went straight to bed.”

Jennie, 31, said: “My family were there for me throughout my pregnancy. We all enjoyed every minute of it, even the sleepless nights, back pain and being kicked all the time. It was such a perfect pregnancy.”

She continued: “When I found out from the doctor I was having a boy, I was delighted. I've always had a name for a boy – Sonny James, which was my late grandad’s name.”

On March 26, Jennie accompanied her sister to a hospital appointment and mentioned she had not felt Sonny for a few days. She visited the antenatal ward and was told there was no heartbeat.

“My whole world was torn apart,” she said. “There was no sign throughout my pregnancy that anything was wrong. I was told I would have to give birth to my baby. I was scared and I didn’t want to, but I had no option.”

Eight and a half months into her pregnancy, Jennie gave birth to her son at the Spring suite of St Mary’s Maternity Unit at Poole Hospital. “He was just perfect. I was able to spend three days with him because of the cold cots and the amazing help from all the staff who cared for me.”

Jennie was also given a box from 4Louis containing teddy bears, candles and a memory card to take pictures on.

“I wasn’t told about it, so it was a nice surprise,” she added. “I decided I couldn’t say goodbye to Sonny and that instead I would say ‘goodnight’.”

The sisters have raised around £800 for the charities so far. The funds they have raised will help 4Louis provide bereaved parents who suffer a stillbirth or neonatal death with memory boxes free of charge.
