AN employee of Keith Motors in Christchurch has cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise cash for the hospice that cared for his step mother in the final days of her cancer battle.

Jon Winter, 31, a warranty administrator, took on the challenge for North Devon Hospice.

He said: “I would like to raise money for the North Devon Hospice so they can continue to provide the highest level of care for patients and families in need.”

Jon, who lives in Bournemouth, cycled 1,019 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats, he completed the challenge in 12 days and had no support or back-up team.

For the majority of the journey Jon was sleeping in a tent at campsites, but had the luxury of staying in a hotel on the three nights.

Jon added: “The lack of sleep and poor weather was tough, but I was determined to complete the challenge within the planned 12-day schedule. The trip was full of high and low moments, but I have a massive sense of achievement for completing the challenge unsupported.”

The employees at Keith Motors sponsored Jon’s cycle and raised £600 towards his grand total of £2,937 for the North Devon Hospice.

Dealer Principle Robin Webb added: “We are proud of Jon, delighted for his achievement and supported him in any way we could. Jon has raised a fantastic amount of money and this will certainly help the North Devon Hospice. We look forward to supporting Jon’s next major challenge.”
