A GROUP who set-up camp at Mudeford over the Bank Holiday weekend, moved on yesterday.

The camp, which consisted of three tents and a number of vehicles, arrived on Friday evening at Mudeford Cricket Ground off Stanpit.

Residents reported seeing several tents, cars and vans on it alongside the tents, along with an open fire.

Dorset Police were informed, as residents had contacted ward councillors to report the camp.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said they had spoken to the group, believed to be travellers, over the weekend.

Purewell and Stanpit ward councillor, Bernie Davis, said while they were not certain the group were travellers, they were still trespassing on council land.

"We have been told they were lighting bonfires and managed to get their vehicles in through the tiniest space," he said.

"The police had powers to move them on as there is a transit site in Dorset and they are trespassing on council land."

He said he and ward colleague Cllr Ray Nottage had both been in touch with the police.
