POLICE have released CCTV images following a terrifying armed robbery at a Christchurch betting shop.

A man wielding a knife entered the branch of Stan James, Barrack Road, just before 8pm on Thursday before threatening a female employee and fleeing with cash. He was then seen running towards Jumpers Road.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, roughly 5ft 8ins and of medium build. He spoke with an English accent and was wearing a dark grey hooded coat, dark jeans, black scarf and balaclava.

DC Steven Davis, of Christchurch CID, said: “One other man was in the bookmakers at the time and would have witnessed the robbery. I am keen to speak to him so he can assist us with our investigation.

“As the offender was wearing a balaclava it is unclear from the images exactly what he looks like, but if anyone saw someone matching the description running in the area or knows someone who was wearing similar clothing and acting suspiciously before or after the incident please contact police on 101.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 5:373. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
