THE future of a Christchurch depot will be discussed at a public event in Christchurch later this month.

Christchurch council is asking members of the public for their views on possible developments at the council’s Grange Road depot, formerly earmarked as a potential traveller site.

Over recent years, the council’s use of its depot at Grange Road has reduced, and is likely to reduce further when Dorset Waste Partnership relocates to other premises shortly.

The relocation will leave an opportunity to develop the site for residents and businesses.

In 2012 residents celebrated after the council removed the Grange Road site from their list of potential traveller sites.

West Highcliffe ward councillor David Jones said he could not comment on the exhibitions as he had not been informed of them.

He said: “I cannot comment on this until I have seen the details on the proposals but I am extremely annoyed that the council management did not see fit to consult ward councillors well in advance.”

Savills has prepared a ‘planning and development brief’ for the site in order to engage with the local community.

The exhibition is on Wednesday, October 22 when display boards setting out the history of the site, current policies as well as site constraints and opportunities will be available along with representatives from Savills and council officers.

It will be at two locations including East Christchurch Sports and Social Club, Grange Road from 12 to 5pm, and then at 6pm to 9pm at Mudeford Wood Community Centre.

Exhibition material will also be available at dorsetforyou.com/ grange-road-depot.

The last date for responses will be Wednesday, November 19 and the responses will be taken to the council’s community services committee on December 17.

Once adopted, the brief will be used as guidance to shape the future use of the depot site.
