Join mother of stabbing victim Nicholas Ormerod in fight against knife crime
A POWERFUL campaign against knife crime is gathering pace ahead of its official launch in Bournemouth next week.
More than 2,000 people have already joined the Facebook group Turn Your Back On Knife Crime.
Now its founders hope to make it a charity with the aim of providing a focal point for the families and friends of stabbing victims.
Jane Ormerod’s son, Nicholas, was stabbed to death in Boscombe in April last year and now she and her friend Liz Lloyd-Clarke are throw ing themselves into the new campaign.
They have joined forces with Essex anti-knife campaigner Danny O’Brien, who runs the 5,000 member Anti Knife UK group.
Jane, of Cranleigh Road, Southbourne , met up with Danny for the first time in Bournemouth recently and they will officially launch Turn Your Back On Knife Crime at a party on Saturday, August 4, the date that would have been Nicholas’ 31st birthday.
It will take place in the park at Lingdale Road, near the Ormerod family home.
“We are delighted that so many people have joined the group so far and we want to continue to raise awareness,” said Jane.
“We are still a very new group but at the moment there is nothing like it. We want to be there to help people in whatever way they want us to.
“We won’t force ourselves on people but I know from my experience that I didn’t know who I could talk to or where to go for help.”
Members of the public are urged to join the Facebook group.
