Bournemouth shop owner sold 126 bottles of fake vodka

ILLEGAL ALCOHOL: One of the fake vodka brands discovered during a raid on a number of convenience stores in the Bournemouth area ILLEGAL ALCOHOL: One of the fake vodka brands discovered during a raid on a number of convenience stores in the Bournemouth area

A BOURNEMOUTH convenience store could lose its licence to sell alcohol amid allegations the owner sold 126 bottles of illegal vodka to another trader.

Trading standards officers are calling for Isbir 2, now trading as Bournemouth Convenience Store, in Old Christchurch Road, to have its licence revoked, claiming the owners are potentially putting customers at risk.

In paperwork submitted to the council’s licensing department, trading standards claim they seized several bottles of counterfeit wine and vodka from the shop in June, August and December last year.

Their report states they then visited the shop again this March, following a complaint from a local trader who claimed Mr Isbir had supplied him with 126 bottles of illegal Drop vodka.

“The trader had purchased the vodka in good faith and when he realised he had been supplied with an illegal alcohol he contacted Mr Isbir.

“Mr Isbir did not take the matter of supplying such a large quantity of illegal alcohol very seriously.”

The report continues: “Mr Isbir has attended an interview regarding the counterfeit wine, for which he blames his brother and ex-manager who both now live in Turkey.

“In his interview for illegal vodka Mr Isbir blames his ex-manager.

“The trader who received the 126 bottles of illegal vodka had the vodka delivered by Mr Isbir personally.”

And it concludes: “There does not appear to be sufficient Management systems in place to prevent crime, protect public safety or protect children from harm.”

Attempts to contact Mr Isbir were not successful.

I don't think it is a good enought excuse to blame someone who has left the country. The business is a company I think and the company itself should be held responsible for this outrageous crime that could risk the lives of numerous people. close the company and a massive fine so that they know they cannot get away with this.

One good way to tell if you have been sold dodgy vodka is to put it in the freezer at @ -18c. If it freezes partially or completely you have a watered down product. If it stays a liquid there is a good chance it's 37.5 or 40 proof. But your best bet is only to buy from a respectable seller in the first place.

The danger is not watered down vodka - its that it can be made using deadly ethanol that can cause death or blindness. if this is what he was selling then the business should not be allowed to operate. people's lives have been put at risk.

Yes because the guys were working on less than minimum wage. The shop is probably breaking the law on numerous counts.

That must be the reason he has been unable to obtain a liquor licence for the shop he has next door to heroes bar at the top end of old xchurch road. I heard a long time ago he was selling up all his shops and moving back to his home land. I say hurry up and do so MR ISBIR.

Why was 'the other' retailer/trader buying from this bloke in the first place? Answer will be because it was a cheaper option than buying from a proper supplier. You get what you pay for in this life. Doesn't excuse the weasel selling it though, deportation!

This is SUCH a dangerous thing to do and I don't think people fully appreciate how severe the consequences of fake vodka can be. I've read a little bit about it recently and it can cause serious health problems.

It's great that they're trying to prevent it from happening but not enough is done locally to raise public awareness of the problem.

That is why the place should be closed down. its a health hazard. If someone drank it and died who would be held responsible for the manslaughter charge - a man who can't be contacted in Turkey?

Sorry, but who wants to go through that? Surely most just want to take it home & drink it? Anyway shouldnt have to go through that palaver. You dont expect shops to be selling dodgy vodka! Also most people would assume if a shop has a licence, then the seller IS respectable.

Yes along with his dodgy mates.
Go home & stay there. We dont want people like him in this country. They have no respect for England & we're far to lax getting the lowest of the low from Europe draining our overloaded system.Imagine being from UK & ripping people off in Turkey? We'd be strung up.Take his licence & kick him out.
Im not racist but we have to be realistic...This countries got enough problems. Why are we so reluctant to put a stop to immigrants like this, who are wecomed to our country yet still find it Ok to flout our laws? I wonder if he was mates with the trader in Wimbourne Rd, selling dodgy wine? Wouldnt suprise me at all...So MR ISBIR go 'home',we dont need anymore scumbags from the pits of Europe.

Have no fear my friend im on it ,i would hope they have checked the moordown shop as well thats another storeroom for illegal booze.all of these 24 hr places have been doing it for years .you dont think they stay open 24 hours a day to sell pints of milk ,there aint a cabbie in the town couldnt take you to an illegal bottle of vodka in bournemouth or get it delivered with your fried chicken well into the early hours . These outlets are pushing the boundaries big time
i certainly wouldnt buy any food from one .i know they change dates on packets ,sell under the counter stuff in bulk etc. Think about it ,they come here as refugees and within 6 months theyve got a shop full of goods and driving a new BMW ,corner shops dont earn that sort of money . The greek cafe on the corner of capstone road .seats smokers outside and completely closes the corner in bad weather in custom made plastic panels ,it just is not legal ,the outside area at Camel bar is exactly the same - these people need checking out
is that enough for the moment couchy?

I think the sale of lethal vodka overides the plastic panel tent in capstone road in terms of risk of death.

No it doesnt rate the same i agree but if you look at the way things are generally manipulated its hardly suprising that there is a percieved and actual lowering of standards in retailing of alcohol and other things that are just not up to scratch . A few years ago Makkah in charminster was fined £6000 for having a filthy butchery department in the rear of their shop and everyone seemed to miss the report in the Echo at the time . I personally felt it should have been shut down but they are only one of a number of foreign owned estabishments that need raiding on all fronts ,staffing ,cleanliness.product quality.
One shop i pick up regular passengers from (by that i mean staff going to the train station to return to london !!!) because these i am sure are illegal workers moved around almost on a daily basis so that they are not being observed ,its a new ploy to keep underpaid slave labour away from the authorities ,i speak to them i know it happens and someone is getting very rich off the back of it

I was in a traditional country gastropub near Wareham the other day. All the front of house staff were young ladies - looked like students. i walked by the kitchen and noticed every one of the kitchen staff was Chinese looking. A bit of a coincidence I think that all of them should be Chinese - you know what with diversity!

The authorities in this town havent even scratched the surface . If youve just bought 126 bottles of vodka whats the betting that wasnt a large portion of the whole stock .they even had a delivery van ,should they not be stopped from trading until its been before the board ?
