THE man found guilty of killing Bistro on the Beach chef Glyn Helliwell is appealing his conviction.

Jake Brand, 22, was jailed for life in January after being convicted of Glyn’s murder by a jury at Winchester Crown Court.

The court had heard how Brand stabbed the 42-year-old 6ft 6ins “gentle giant” with a large kitchen knife as he walked along Parkwood Road, Southbourne, in the early hours of July 6, 2011.

The jury were also told that Brand stole Glyn’s mobile phone, which he later pawned for £20 and returned to the scene as paramedics tended to Glyn and police cordoned the areas.

Brand, who lived in Parkwood Road, was jailed for life and told by Mr Justice David Calvert-Smith that he would have to serve at least 23 years before he would be considered for parole.

Now Brand’s legal team have submitted their grounds for appeal to the Court of Appeal in London and his case is being processed before it is considered by a single judge.

It will be up to that judge to make a decision on whether to grant Brand leave to appeal.

If so an appeal will then be heard.
