A WAVE of burglaries across Bournemouth and Poole has prompted a pre-Christmas security warning from police.

More than 50 properties have been raided since the start of November, with Charminster worst hit with 16 reported incidents.

There have been 11 break-ins in the Ensbury Park and East Howe area, 12 in East Cliff, four in the Muscliffe and Throop area, and eight reported in Broadstone.

Dorset Police are urging people to report any suspicious activity they spot and to review their own security measures.

Detective Inspector Michael Mullen, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said: “Burglary rates tend to rise in the lead up to Christmas.

“I would urge the public to assist us in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice.”

DI Mullen said burglars were often opportunists and a few simple steps could “greatly reduce” the chances of being a victim.

He said: “Check houses are left secure when left vacant, ensure that alarms are set wherever possible and make certain that valuables are not left on display.”

Detectives investigating the Charminster burglaries are seeking a white man, in his late 20s or early 30s, with a stocky build, tanned skin and short hair.

Three men and a woman are wanted in connection with the Ensbury Park and East Howe break-ins.

Two of the men are described as in their late 30s or 40s, of slim build and clean-shaven with short dark hair.

The three men are between 5 ft 8in and 6ft tall. The wanted woman is white, around 5ft 7in tall and of slim build.

A black man with short curly hair, thought to be in his 20s, is wanted in connection with the East Cliff burglaries. He was seen riding a bicycle. Anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 01202 222222.
