Ten-strong gang beats up man, 21, in Bournemouth Square

A MAN was pushed to the ground and repeatedly kicked in the head by a gang of 10 men in Bournemouth Square.

It is the second serious attack in less than a week in the town.

Detectives believe up to 10 men were involved the incident, which took place near the bus stop outside the Moon in the Square pub in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The victim, a 21-year-old Bournemouth man, had left V nightclub on Exeter Road just after 3am and walked the short distance to the bus stop when the men appeared.

Police say the assault only stopped after a friend of the victim intervened.

The attackers ran off in the direction of McDonald’s in Old Christchurch Road.

The incident comes just four days after 25-year-old Boscombe man Nick Verron suffered stab injuries, following an attack on Saturday in Roumelia Lane.

Mr Verron suffered wounds to the head and is currently in the neurological unit at Southampton General Hospital with injuries which are described as life-threatening.

The offenders in Tuesday’s attack in The Square are described as being of Asian appearance, with the main attacker being around 5ft 9in tall, of athletic build and wearing a bandanna tied at the back with a dark trilby hat on top.

No further description of the attackers is available.

Detective Constable Matthew Manners of Bournemouth and Poole CID said: “The victim was taken to the Royal Bournemouth hospital where he was treated for bruising to his head. However, the injuries could have been much worse.”

He described the attack as “cowardly”’and added: “I am determined to find those responsible as soon as possible.”

You are a very scary person.

Do you not realise that with your attitude you are acting the same as as the attackers.

Couldn't agree with you more, Sean. Far better to invite them to tea, gently explain to them the error of their ways, then send them on an all-expenses paid fortnight's holiday in the sunshine where they can experience a little character building exercise, personal development and so on, then - completely rehabilitated - come back fully refreshed and smash YOUR head in, or mine, or any other right minded citizen going peaceably about his or her business.

If convicted they should go to prison for a long time.

Violence is not acceptable in a civilised society.

If you are advocating violence you are the same as the attackers. You also deserve to be locked up for a long time if you carried out an act of violence.

Your attitude makes a serious problem worse. You should have been taught at school not to respond to violence with violence.

Grow up

All very well having all this CCTV but it sounds like they have not caught any of them despite having all on tape. Its sad to hear such news but not unsurprising in Bournemouth these days, we are a seaside town of stag and hen parties, drunken yobs and little respect. Nice eh.

How many Asians live in B'm'th?

Rubbish, all authority when refined down is derived from violence or the genuine threat of violence.

Ironically most people will have found out from school that the best way to stop people bullying is to hit back.

The only thing that "civilised society" does is attempt to control the level of violence so that it's proportional to the needs of the situation.

I hope you were not referring to me when you made this comment directly below mine!

I do want to know what this place is turning into and yes it is frightening for a decent law abiding person.

Kudos - Are you serious?
You are justifying and legitimising the actions of thugs.

It doesn't matter who is dishing out the violence. Weather it's the Police, a teacher, a parent or a thug on the street it's all wrong.
If you tell the thug on the street that all the other violence apart from his is acceptable. Then you will get the reaction you deserve.

I hope you are not in a position of influence or authority. If you are or ever were God help us all.

What is wrong with these people, mindless violence. Two cases in a week, and possible death.
So there's a camera regime in place surely they were switched on?
Mindless idiots with nothing better to do than beat the cr*p out of an innocent bystander, sad but these morons survive in our town.

Rubbish, the laws in this country are a farce, there needs to be proper punishments in line to prevent these idiots from doing such things.

At the end of the day they are just a bunch of cowards, prison in the UK is not a punishment, you get a nice comfy cell, tv, dvd, food etc, how the hell is that punishment!!

Bournemouth Council should turn the IMAX into a jujitsu training camp to help residents fend off feral stag parties.

In addition, the IMAX could be used as a base camp to launch patrols around Bouremouth at night.

I'm free every other Saturday night to help out. I could work on the phones or make tea, I'm pretty flexible.

If prison is so nice why not turn the IMAX into a prison themed hotel?

Obviously the 5 star luxury of a prison at affordable family rates would be a killer attraction during the summer months.

I'm seconding this great idea.

This is yet another wake-up call. Is Bournemouth's image doomed beyond repair?

Forget for a moment the other issues in this post.

Very simply, the greed and extreme abuse of alcohol (and drugs) in clubs, with extended hours, is the issue.

I have witnessed a greater availability of alcohol to those who are intoxicated, as well as drugs such as cocaine, crystal meths and heroin, in the town's 'clubs', than I have seen in New York City or Miami, where this sort of behaviour has been successfully stamped out due to effective political leadership and good policing, both of which seem to be lacking in this town.

Both the Council, and the licensees, are as culpable as are those who have carried out this despicable act.

Surely the town can be reclaimed from this? Or is it truly doomed? What do you want Bournemouth to be?

The town's image is now tarnished almost beyond recognition. No one, who would bring any worthwhile tourist income to this town, wants to visit because if this image.

This is the simple truth. For goodness sake, stop parsing side issues, and deal with it the problem of clubs, ineffectual council leadership, and give the police the powers to crack down on this.
