I AM sorry to read that Mr Henderson of Newcastle was disappointed with the Bournemouth he found on his return after 20 years.

In the time since his last visit we have seen the growth of the town's two universities, the Imax demolished, Pier Approach improved beyond recognition, our Blue Flag beaches replenished and our coastline protected with new groynes. All this together with the considerable external investment in the town centre.

There are clear indicators the resort is performing exceptionally well. With 11.2 million visitors to the conurbation and rising every year, Bournemouth was recently voted the best beach in the UK by Trip Advisor reviewers. We have a 98% public satisfaction rate with the cleanliness of our beaches. Property prices are rising, and there is a growing demand for new businesses wanting to locate here. Bournemouth continues to be a highly desirable place to work, live and visit and this week was recognised as the 7th most photographed and shared destination on Instagram in the world.

We work hard to maintain the standards, and we can assure Mr Henderson we will continue to do so. We hope Mr Henderson will return soon so we can change his perception of our town that has made it one of the best coastal resorts in the UK.
