HAVING travelled across Tuckton roundabout every day at rush hour since work on the roundabout began, it's notable how well it is functioning with single lanes (due to the roadworks), even with an entire road – Wick Lane – shut off.
How could the council get it so wrong? Why did they insist on this dual-carriageway, motorway-style roundabout with wide lanes despite objections from many people asking for a single lane roundabout more in keeping and scale with the setting? The fact the council transport engineers are clearly incapable of predicting how things will turn out when there are changes to the road layout should encourage them to be more adventurous and less obsessed with cars and "traffic flows". And perhaps, dare I say it, actually listen to the community they are supposed to serve.
