A RELATIVE of AFC Bournemouth star Lewis Cook is set to receive a financial windfall if the midfielder plays for England against Netherlands or Italy.

The 21-year-old is part of the 27-man squad that was named for the friendlies and if he features in either of the upcoming matches his grandfather will win £17,000.

Trevor Burlingham, Lewis' grandfather, placed the £500 bet with bookmakers William Hill that his grandson would win a senior England cap before his 26th birthday.

The wager at odds of 33/1 was made back in 2014 as the then Leeds United player was breaking into the first team at the age of 18.

William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said: “Lewis has obviously already had one call up but didn’t win a cap and it now looks like a case of when, not if his grandfather is repaid for the faith he showed in his grandson.

“He has been in fine form this season and is well deserving of a call up, so let’s hope he can go one better and bag a cap in the next few days.”

The Three Lions face Netherlands in Amsterdam this evening, before hosting Italy at Wembley on Tuesday.
