A BOURNEMOUTH bookshop is celebrating after being named the best in the South West.
Westbourne Bookshop has been named the South West’s Independent Bookshop of the Year in the 2018 British Book Awards.
The British Book Awards celebrate the successes of publishers, authors and bookshops.
Westbourne Bookshop was taken over in 2015 by Paul and Vicki Angel, part of the family business behind Gullivers Bookshop in Wimborne.
British Book Awards judges praised Westbourne Bookshop for having "grown its sales, range and reputation since 2015".
Paul Angel said: "It's a real honour to be ranked amongst the best of bookshops in Britain. Westbourne is a wonderful place to run a business, and I'm extremely grateful to our customers for helping us to be the bookshop we want to be.”
Eight bookshops from across Britain and Ireland will now battle it out for the Independent Bookshop of the Year award, which includes a £5,000 cheque from award sponsor Gardners Books, the UK's largest book wholesaler.
The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on May 14.
