THERE'S just one week to go until World Book Day and schools across Dorset and the New Forest are preparing for the event.

Thousands of children are expected to dress up as their favourite book characters to celebrate the day.

Last year hundreds of you sent your pictures in to the Daily Echo to show off the fabulous array of costumes being worn across the area.

And this year we are hoping to display even more of them.

In 2017 many parents sent pictures from home before they took their children to school. Schools also sent group pictures.

World Book Day is run by a registered charity which sends information packs to primary schools across the UK.

All children who take part are given a £1 book token to spend in participating bookshops.

This year there are a number of £1 books available, including a Mr Men title and a Paddington title. Writers participating in the £1 book scheme include Julian Clary and Tom Fletcher.

This is the 21st anniversary of World Book Day and organisers are hoping it will be bigger and better than ever.
