A TEMPORARY branch of Game is doing “fantastically” in Bournemouth town centre and the retailer is looking for a permanent site, the store manager says.

The video game store opened on Old Christchurch Road before Christmas, shortly after its branch at Castlepoint closed.

Store manager James Hazell said: “The plans are to move further down the high street nearer the Square. We’re staying in Bournemouth.”

The shop has 10 staff, who worked at the Castlepoint branch before its closure last November.

“We’ve had a lot of people come in and say it’s great to have Game back in Bournemouth,” said Mr Hazell.

“Our primary focus is on the new consoles from Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch. We’re perfectly covered for that,” he said.

“We’re still doing all the other things, trading in, selling smartphones and things like that.”

Bournemouth town centre has been without a Game store since 2012, when the chain’s owner went into administration, under pressure from supermarkets and online gaming.

The chain was saved under new ownership, but the Commercial Road shop was among those shed during the administration process.

Mr Hazell said there was still a demand for games on disc and for personal service.

“There are still so many people that just want our advice, which is fantastic. That’s so difficult to find online,” he said.

“Being able to trade in your games as well is fantastic, but the biggest thing is definitely customer service.”
