TV PERSONALITY and popstar Marvin Humes performed at the grand reopening of a Bournemouth nightclub on Friday night.

Marvin, 32, was the headline act at Cameo in Fir Vale Road.

The former JLS Star, who now hosts a show on Capital FM, spun the “latest and greatest” house, dance, chart, R&B and classic hits as a part of his set, which marked the unveiling of Cameo’s extensive £500,000 refurbishment.

Groups and parties were catered for with pre-bookable VIP booths, with table service from a team of hosts throughout the night.

Cameo’s general manager Adrian Swain, who said he was “determined to put on a party to remember”, said: “It was amazing. Everyone loved Marvin.

“Although, he was a little bit jaded as it was Ashton’s birthday so he had to shoot off a little bit early.”

“We saw about 2,400 people though the door, 300 of which were from Bournemouth University celebrating the Chinese New Year.

“We’ve received some excellent feedback on what was basically an upgrade of what was previously there.

“We’ve put in a new bar, and a better deluxe area overlooking the dance floor, which actually works really well, and we are really pleased.

“Our venue is all about creating great nights out and memorable experiences and we look forward to hosting more stars over the coming months.”

Cameo and Myu bar opened in 2013 and advertises itself as “the south coast’s largest nightclub”.

Cameo parent firm the Deltic Group, among the UK’s largest bar and club operators, saw like-for-like sales across its estate grow 8.2 per cent in the four weeks to December 31, outperforming the market.

Its figures also showed pre-booked Christmas parties were up 20 per cent, while it had a record New Year’s Eve, with 76,500 admissions and total sales of £2.4million – up 2.6 per cent on last year.

It said it invested £200,000 in headline DJs across 37 venues for New Year’s Eve and sold 10,000 bottles of champagne and prosecco over the month.

Last month, group chief executive Peter Mark said: “The strong performance was aided by the refurbishment programme that continues to yield great results, and the focus on entertainment and premium service and products.”
