HUNDREDS of mourners attended the funeral of a little boy who died following a crash in Bournemouth.

Shane Junior Bartlett, who was five, was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Corsa in Naseby Road as he returned home from school on Wednesday, December 13.

He suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Poole Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

On Tuesday morning, family and friends wearing black wept as Shane Junior’s funeral took place.

The youngster’s coffin arrived at Bournemouth North Cemetery’s East Chapel in the back of a glass carriage drawn by two white horses with blue feather plumes in their bridles.

His brother sat alongside the carriage driver.

A floral tribute in the shape of a football had been placed atop the small coffin.

The words ‘Shane’, ‘Junior’ and ‘son’ spelled out in flowers had also been placed around the casket.

As mourners began to walk into the chapel, grey clouds briefly cleared and a faint rainbow appeared.

In the days after his death, Shane Junior’s family released a tribute to their “bright, happy, cheeky, loving child” through Dorset Police.

In the tribute, they said Shane Junior had the “most beautiful smile and would brighten up your day”.

“He will be missed by so many people, especially mummy and daddy,” they said.

“He has left a hole that will never be filled, and his twin has lost his partner and best friend.

“His brothers and sister are so empty without that smile from Shane Junior.”

A funeral notice placed in the Daily Echo read: “A special boy who was loved by so many.”

Shane Junior attended Winton Primary School.

Headteacher Neil Tarchetti told the Daily Echo everyone at the school was “deeply distressed and devastated” by the schoolboy’s death.

“At just five years old, this well-liked and enthusiastic little boy had his whole future ahead of him,” he said.

“We are talking to all the children in school about what has happened and offering support where needed.”
