A SPATE of drug driving arrests were made by police specials over the weekend in Bournemouth and Poole.

Three drivers were stopped and arrested by Dorset Police No Excuse team specials on Saturday and in the early hours of Sunday.

A further two arrests relating to alleged drug use were made on Sunday afternoon and evening, including a repeat arrest from the previous day.

Around 8pm on Saturday, a 20-year-old man from Poole driving a black Renault Clio was pulled over outside the school on Gravel Hill after being seen weaving up Waterloo Road.

A Drugwipe was conducted which came back positive for cannabis.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody where blood samples were taken.

He was released under investigation.

On Sunday, the same driver was seen again driving erratically at Turlin Moor around 4pm.

He was arrested on suspicion of the same offence and released until all the samples come back.

Around 11pm on Saturday, officers spotted a vehicle speeding in the 20mph section of the Rossmore Road area.

The driver of the black Vauxhall Corsa, a 20-year-old male from Poole, was known to police.

Police claimed the driver appeared to be under the influence of drugs and a Drugwipe came back positive for cocaine and cannabis.

The driver, who had been arrested and released under investigation on suspicion of drug driving offences last month, was arrested and taken to custody.

The driver is due to appear in court in the coming weeks.

In the early hours of Sunday, police also arrested the driver of a white Mercedes.

The man who was driving while disqualified and without insurance, proved positive for having taken cocaine in the last few hours.

Another driver was caught speeding in the Cemetery Junction area and tested positive for cannabis and cocaine.

The motorist was arrested and released under investigation.

Temporary Special Sergeant Paul Barber, of Dorset Police No Excuse, said: "Drugs stay in your system for a number of days and you can never be sure when they leave your system.

"Our advice to you is to not take any chances.

"We will continue to target those drivers who put others at risk."
